ADVANCED LOAD CONTAINMENT TESTING & ANALYSIS

Rapid Lab is a testing service that quantifies load containment by applying gradually increasing forces to a palletized load — up to the point of failure — and delivering a comprehensive technical report. Using a Transportation Simulator that tilts loads up to 38 degrees and applies forces up to 0.8 Gs, along with an Impact Tester that measures sudden force events with high-speed cameras, Rapid Lab replicates the real-world stresses a shipment experiences in transit. Testing follows US DOT commercial load testing guidelines, ISTA standards, Canadian NSC STD standards, and European safe transit guidelines — giving customers objective, data-backed answers about which containment solution actually works for their product.

PUTTING CONTAINMENT TO THE TEST

Rapid Lab evaluates pallet performance through a series of advanced tests that replicate the forces loads experience throughout transportation and handling.
These tests help us understand how loads respond to:

  • Turning forces
  • Sudden stops
  • Acceleration and deceleration
  • Vibration during transit
  • Product shifting
  • Load instability

Every test is carefully measured, documented, and analyzed to provide clear, actionable insights.

TRANSPORTATION SIMULATOR

The Transportation Simulator replicates the stresses and load movements experienced during real-world transportation by tilting loads up to 38 degrees, sustaining forces of up to 0.8 Gs, recreating turning, acceleration, uphill, and downhill conditions, and introducing vibration to simulate road conditions.

Vibration is a critical component of testing because it reduces friction between pallet layers, closely replicating actual transportation dynamics. Throughout testing, we evaluate load movement, product shifting, containment performance, and stability under sustained force.

Load profiles are documented before and after testing to accurately measure the location and extent of load shifting. Testing is conducted in accordance with US DOT commercial load testing guidelines, ISTA standards, Canadian NSC STD standards, and European safe transit guidelines.

    IMPACT TESTER

The Impact Tester evaluates load performance under sudden force events commonly encountered during transportation and material handling. The system generates short-duration, high-impact forces to simulate abrupt movements while precisely measuring g-force and velocity using advanced data acquisition instrumentation.

High-speed cameras capture load behavior during impact, enabling engineers to analyze product movement, stretch film performance, containment integrity, and potential failure points. Load profiles are documented before and after testing to quantify load shift and evaluate overall stability.

    COMPREHENSIVE REPORTING & ANALYSIS

Upon completion of testing, customers receive a comprehensive report detailing test results, performance measurements, load shift analysis, visual documentation, engineering observations, and recommendations. This analysis provides actionable insights to support containment standards, optimize film usage, improve transportation safety, advance sustainability goals, and identify cost-saving opportunities.

REAL-WORLD TESTING. DATA-DRIVEN SOLUTIONS. PROVEN PERFORMANCE.

Every product, pallet configuration, and shipping environment is different. A containment solution that works well for one application may not perform effectively for another.

The result is a customized, data-driven containment strategy designed specifically for your operation.

      RAPID LAB FAQs

      What is Rapid Lab?
Rapid Lab is a testing service that quantifies load containment by applying gradually increasing forces to a load until failure, then providing a comprehensive technical report.
What standards does Rapid Lab test against?
Testing is conducted in accordance with US DOT commercial load testing guidelines, ISTA standards, Canadian NSC STD standards, and European safe transit guidelines.
What equipment does Rapid Lab use to test loads?
A Transportation Simulator (tilting loads up to 38 degrees and applying forces up to 0.8 Gs to recreate turning, acceleration, and road vibration) and an Impact Tester (measuring g-force and velocity during sudden impact events using high-speed cameras).
What do I receive from a Rapid Lab test?
A comprehensive report covering test results, performance measurements, load shift analysis, visual documentation, engineering observations, and recommendations for optimizing your containment approach.
Why use Rapid Lab instead of just picking a containment standard?
Every product, pallet configuration, and shipping environment is different — a method that works for one application may fail for another. Rapid Lab replaces assumptions with data specific to your product and shipping conditions.
Can Rapid Lab help me choose between Rapid Bander, Rapid Roper Plus, and Rapid Vent?
Yes — Rapid Lab testing is commonly used to validate which containment solution performs best for a specific product and load profile before it’s implemented.
